Week 2 Blog-Technology Integration

The Triple E Framework created in 2011 is a technology integrated framework as described in the logo

including 3 levels- Extend, Enhance, Engage learning goals.  According to Kolb (2015), “The Triple E

is a practical framework that measures the degree to which the technology in a lesson is helping students

meet the learning goals.” This framework assists educators in selecting vital tools to achieve their own

goal to ultimately help create a rich environment for students' growth. This framework can be used in any

content area and specifies the importance the teacher serves as a facilitator and implementer for the

technology integration to be a success.

The district uses the evaluative document, T-TESS, under the Planning Dimension 1.1-Standards and Alignment states  “Integration of technology to enhance mastery goal(s).” (T-TESS) which is the only alignment  to the Triple E Framework. This  model dives deeper in the 3 E’s and shows promise. This framework addresses the most current approaches to thinking when it comes to technology used by educators to facilitate learning and growth for students. Level 1 - Engagement dives deeper by not only capturing the attention but also the desire to learn the content by collaborating with others through technology. While level 2- Enhanced explains “value added”, or where the traditional methods would not be able add to the learning like technology would (Kolb). Finally level 3- Extend- involves having multiple strategies available to teacher and student to make connections to the real world.

One connection to the ISTE standard is using collaborative tools to enhance student learning while also creating real world experiences. Another connection is facilitating student ownership of goals where the Triple E framework emphasizes the engagement in partner or group setting to share learning while the ISTE considers both independent and groups.

This framework does not align with the current evaluation tool because this framework is specific and detailed in the 3 E’s, Engagement, Enhanced, and Extend while the evaluative tool states to integrate technology into the curriculum and planning but does not provide a framework on how to adequately use it to its optimal potential.
